Dallas extends win streak over Suns (2/25/05)

The Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks wore down a determined Phoenix Wheelchair Suns team and coasted to a 94 – 66 victory. The Sun’s were quick out of the blocks hitting 6 of their first 8 shots from the floor to establish a 14 to 4 lead five minutes into the game. The Mavs fought back to trail by only 1 (19 to 18) by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the both teams shot better than 50% from the floor and neither team could establish better than a 3 point lead. The half ended tied at 40 points. Dallas used a 12 -0 run early in the third quarter the key a 24 to 9 run that took much of the fight out of the Suns. From there the Mavs cruised to the comfortable win.

Paul Schulte’s 28 points (11 for 18 from the floor) led five Mavs in double figures. Also in double figures were Jeff Glasbrenner (18 pts), Jason Van Beek (12 pts), Jermell Pennie (10 pts), and Ryan Hundemer (10 pts). Rusty Belknap and Willie Hernandez chipped in 9 and 7 points respectively. Mark Shepherd led Phoenix with 20 points.

 

Glasbrenner leads Mavs to 91 -68 win over Bucks (2/26/05)

Jeff Glasbrenner was 13 for 19 from the floor and 11 for 12 from the line to score 37 points and lead Dallas to a 91 -68 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Glasbrenner also had 13 rebounds and 4 assists in the game. The Mavs were slow out of the blocks for the second consecutive game and struggled to a 26 – 16 deficit at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Dallas regained composure and battled back to tie the game at 41 at halftime. Milwaukee’s shooting percentage fell off from 46% to 30% in the second half and Dallas began to assume control of the game. By the end of the third quarter, the Mavs had pushed out to a 12 point lead (65 – 53). The Bucks weren’t able to challenge in the fourth quarter as fatigue may have been an issue. Milwaukee’s short bench forced them to play three of their starters all but two minutes of the game.

Dallas supported Glasbrenner’s game with three other Mavs in double figures. Paul Schulte had 13 points and 10 assists. Raul Ortega and Willie Hernandez added 12 and 10 points respectively. For the Buck’s Jeremy Lade tallied 22 points and Gavin Cloy scored 20. Milwaukee’s leading scorer, Dave Durepos was held to 14 points (5 for 15 from the floor).


Mavs crush Force (2/27/05)

The Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks used a tight zone defense and purposeful offense to dominate a fatigued Florida Force team. For the game, Dallas shot a blistering 64% from the floor to earn the 101 -42 win. The Mavs also dominated the boards with a 44 to 24 advantage in rebounds. For Dallas, six players were in double figures. Jeff Glasbrenner led all scorers with 21 points. Paul Schulte added 18 points and 11 assists. Also in double figures for the Mavs were Ryan Hundemer (16 pts), Raul Ortega (14 pts), and Jermell Pennie and Jason Van Beek with 10 points each.
 

NBA/NWBA All-Star game

Dug Jones coached the East All-Stars to a 56 – 47 victory over the West All-Stars in a 40-minute exhibition game held on February 17th in conjunction with the NBA All-Star festivities in Denver, Colorado. Maverick Raul Ortega led the East scorers with 12 points in 18 minutes of action.
