Mavericks roll on Force (1/7/05)

Shooting better than 60% from the floor in the first half, the Mavs charged out to a 63 to 29 half time lead and never looked back. Particularly sharp from the field were Jason Van Beek (5 for 5 for the game), Jeff Glasbrenner (8 for 9 for the game), and Ryan Hundemer (6 for 10). After the half, Dallas chose to play multiple combinations and work exclusively on half-court offensive sets.

The Force, playing without starters Richard Peter and Jeff Dennis, struggled to find an offensive rhythm. A bright spot for Florida was the play of big man, Ed Tuthill who scored 13 points and snagged 13 rebounds in 45 minutes of action. Clayton Peters chipped in 12 points (6 for 9 from the field) and 5 assists for the Force.

Dallas defeats Milwaukee (1/8/05)

After a first half that ended deadlocked at 43, the Mavericks pulled away from the Bucks with an 18 to 6 run midway thru the third quarter. Two consecutive Paul Schulte 3-pointers keyed the run. Milwaukee wasn’t able to respond with a run of their own and Dallas cruised in for a 95 to 80 victory.

Jeff Glasbrenner led Dallas with 25 points and an amazing 24 rebounds. Raul Ortega, continuing to shoot the ball well (10 for 14), added 23 points for the Mavs. In his last two games against Milwaukee, Ortega is 24 for 32 including 4 for 4 from the 3-point line. Paul Schulte contributed 18 points and 9 assists in the win.

Mavericks wear down Suns (1/9/05)

Dallas, playing nine players near equal minutes, and keeping the tempo high, wore down a short-handed Phoenix Suns team and rolled to a 105 – 64 victory. At the end of the first quarter, the Dallas lead was only 4 points, but the Suns were showing signs of fatigue. Unable to play a three treys lineup due to the absence of class I, Nate Dove, the Suns were forced to play guards Mark Shepherd, Tommy Schroeder, and Ryan Martin all 48 minutes of the game. The impact was evident in the second half as the Phoenix shooting percentage sank to 33%.

For the Mavericks, five players were in double figures. Both Stephen Welch and Jeff Glasbrenner scored 22 while both Paul Schulte and Raul Ortega chipped in 17. Glasbrenner (15) and Rusty Belknap (11) led a dominating rebounding effort for Dallas who finished the game with a 53 to 26 rebounding advantage.
