City of Lights Invitational

Mavs light up Las Vegas (2/4/05 and 2/5/05)

The Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks dominated the action at the City of Lights Invitational held in Las Vegas Nevada on February 4th and 5th, 2005.

In Friday’s action, the Mavs had five players in double figures in route to a 106 – 74 win over the University of Texas at Arlington. Jeff Glasbrenner led all scorers with 31 points, while Paul Schulte added 26 points that included three 3-pointers. Also in double figures for the Mavs were Stephen Welch (16 pts), Jason Van Beek (13 pts), and Rusty Belknap (10 pts). UTA was led in scoring by Joe Burmania who hit 5 3-pointers en route to a 23-point game.

On Saturday, Dallas had their highest scoring game of the season in a 124 to 75 win over the Phoenix Suns. The Mavs had five players in double figures for the second consecutive game. Jeff Glasbrenner was almost unstoppable with 37 points. Paul Schulte had four 3-pointers en route to a 25-point game. Also scoring in double figures for Dallas were Stephen Welch (17 pts), Jermell Pennie (13 pts), and Willie Hernandez (12 pts). Tony Greco led the Suns with 18 points.
